Dear Lorine and others of the Dutch-Colonies List,
Your ready knowledge is amazing, and I appreciate your evaluating, and
so quickly, the data I posted, and indicating the directions to go for
further research. What I am starting with is papers from a file on my
gg-grandfather Elias Anderson, a California pioneer. The posted material
was from a report by an unidentified researcher prepared for a
collateral descendent from Horace P. Anderson, brother of George
Anderson who was Elias Anderson's father (KY>MO). George Anderson's
father, according to this, was Ely Anderson of Trenton NJ, who married
Achsah Van Dyke in 1768. Ely Anderson's father, same list, is given as
Eliakim Anderson of NJ, who married Rebecca Ely (English not Dutch) in
1743. His father is then listed as Enoch Anderson (Andriessen) of the
original post, with the two prior generations given as I posted there.
Some references to "authorities for line of descent" are cited:
--C.W. Opdyke : "The Opdyke Genealogy; containing the Opdyke . . .
American Descendants of the Wesel and Holland Families."
--Affidavits of Hattie Anderson Bentley (a sister of George and Horace
P. Anderson).
--Copy of Will of George Anderson, filed 1832 in Maysville, KY.
--Copy of the Family Bible Record.
--"An Historical Narrative of the Ely, Rowell and Stacye Families" by
R.P. Ely, D.S. Ely, and D.B. Ely.
I believe the emphasis was on establishing the line of descent back to
Ely Anderson, a private in the Revolutionary War (reference given is:
"Officers and men of New Jersey in the Revolution" by Stryker, page
488), and to Ely Anderson's grandfather Enoch Anderson, for which
Original Will No. 140J, Trenton, New Jersey, is cited as reference.
It's not clear how much, if any, of the data on Enoch Andriessen's
father, given as Jachem Andries, or Jachem Andries's father given as
Andries ___ who married Selitje ___ is documented in any of those
sources.
I clearly have much homework to do.
With appreciation again for your knowledge and your patience, and the
valuable citations you gave for Selitje.
Sincerely,
J Jastram | Horace Philip Anderson
