Obituary for ALFRED WILLIAMS:
Services will be held today a 2 PM in Seguin Funeral Home for AlfredWilliams, 83, who died from a coronary occlusin early Tuesday in his homeat 227 Highwood Ave., Highwood. The Rev. Donald Woods, minister of WesleyMethodist Church, officiated at the services. Burial was in WarrenCemetery, Gurnee.
Born Dec 12, 1869, in Kirksville, MO., Mr. Williams came to Highland Parkin 1925. He was a painter by occupation.
Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Ola Norman of Waukegan, and Mrs. OavaBryan of Highwood; two sons, Minor and Thomas of Highwood, a brother,Frank, of Kirksville; a sister, Mrs. Andy Allen of Walnut Shade, MO., andnine grandchildren. His wife Drusella (sp) died 10 yrs ago.
======
I knew him only as Grampa Williams, I remember him painting the GrampaNorman's house on a ladder when he was in his eighties. My motherremembered the story of him being carried dying out the back door of hisfavorite watering hole. His faithful old dog "Rags" waited for almost aweek outside the front door, until one of the family went and took himhome. Grandma Williams had died 2 months before I was born in 1943 so Idon't remember Gramma Williams. Grampa Williams was a slight wiry manwith skin like leather from working in the sun all of his life. His teethwere worn and stained from the ever present corn cob pipe. I don'tremember ever seeing it lit. He kind of reminded me of Popeye the wayhe'd hold the pipe in his mouth. I remember his funeral vaguely, Feb 5,1953, about the time we moved to Gurnee, IL. Since they said he was 94,he must have been born abt 1858. His daughters Ola and Oava he had adaughter-in-law called Oma or Omah, married to Minor Williams.Calculating from the obituary day of the week, Alfred died 3 feb 1953 -TLNorman 7/28/2004

"Judge John S. Cooper began the practice of law at Trenton in 1870, andfrom the beginning took high rank as a lawyer. He was quite successful asa general practitioner, but he was specially noted for his preference forchancery practice, in which line he was eminently successful."
Pg. 29
"He was more than once appointed special judge of the Supreme Court andminor courts. He was mayor of the city of Trenton, and for one term aState senator. In 1894 he was elected chancellor, which position he howholds. He has made an enviable reputation as chancellor, and won theesteem of the bar and the people. In the midst of the busy rounds of theactive practice practice of his profession, he has found time to devotehimself to literary pursuits. He is not only well read and scholarly, buthas also contributed articles of literary worth and merit to the press."

Harry, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. John Holdsworth, died at the homeof his parents in Kellogg on Friday morning, September 1, 1905, after abrief illness, in the 17th year of his age.

He had been ailing for more than a week but his illness was notconsidered serious either by himself or his parents until about an hourpreceeding his death when a change came and he sank rapidly and allefforts to stay the hand of death proved unavailing. His disease was acomplication of typhoid fever and pneumonia.

Harry was a dutiful son, kind and considerate, industrious, of steady andtemperate habits and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. His deathhas cast a gloom over the household and is deeply regretted by manyfriends who will join in sympathy and condolence to the sorrowing parentsand other relatives.

Funeral services were held at the home at 10 o'clock last Sunday morningand attended by a large concourse of sympathizing friends. The Kelloggconcert band, of which Harry was a member, attended in a body and led thefuneral procession to the cemetery.

Those attending the funeral from a distance were: Samuel Holdsworth ofEvans, Mr. and Mrs. Huffred of Oskaloosa, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Gowins ofNewton and Ed Anderson and children of Brooklyn.
