      Notes for George Quesenberry
Montgomery Co. Deeds record 5 Feb 1787, Geo. Quesinberry sold toFrederick Slinker for 15 pounds, 50 acres on so. side of Greasy Creekbranch of the New River

Information on this family is from John P. Alderman's "Carroll 1765-1815The Settlements", unless noted otherwise. George and his family settledin Grayson Co. on the south side of Greasy Creek between 1777 and 1782.If his son Frederick was correct in giving his place of birth as BedfordCo., George may have lived there circa 1771-1773 and been married there.(Martha's father Christopher Slinker died in Bedford Co. in 1793.)

There were probably other children who died young, considering the gapof 5 years between the births of Moses and Joseph and the 9 years betweenthe births of William and George. Another possible daughter is Catherine,"Cathy Quesenberry" ordered to appear before the court in Montgomery Co.,VA, in 1808 to show cause why her children should not be bound out. Therehas been no other record found of this Cathy Quesenberry. But rather thana daughter of George, she could possibly be a teenage daughter of Mosesor Frederick, or may have been married to and abandoned by one ofGeorge's sons who left the area, purportedly for Tennessee, in 1807(Joseph, Thomas, and William.)

The "? Moses" listed as father of George is a placeholder. See his Notes.
      Notes for Martha ("Patsy") Slinker
Grayson County Deed Book #1, p. 167, lists George Quesenberry and Marthahis wife sold 115 acres of land on Greasy Creek to Ephraim Dickens.
Notes for Thomas & Nancy (Family)
Montgomery Co. VA marriage bonds list marriage of Nancy Quesenberry toThomas Richardson on 25 Jun 1790, George Quesenberry was surety on thebond, Robert Jones minister. Same records include a marriage of a NancyQuesenberry to Thomas Jones on 7 June 1791, by Randolph Hall. Not clearwho the latter Nancy would be; if she were this one, she would probablyhave been listed as Mrs. Nancy Richardson. But there are no knownQuesenberry males in this part of Virginia who might have died before1791, so if she is a widow of a Quesenberry, it is not known to whom shewas first married.
Notes for Frederick & Mary ("Mollie") (Family)
Profile of Frederick Quesenberry and his family on p. 137 of John P.Alderman's "Carroll 1765-1815 The Settlements." It cites, among othersources, Floyd Co. Will Book #C, p.196, records of the New Hope PrimitiveBaptist church, and the 1850 Floyd Co. Census, household #887. TheBaptist Church records say Frederick died in 1853; but his will was dated24 Jan 1854 and probated 23 Nov 1854. Alderman also cites Montgomery Co.marriage bond, issued 20 Dec 1793, for "Frederick Quesenberry & MollyPhillips, daughter of Tobias Phillips, surety Moses Quesenberry, consentTobias and Peggey Phillips, intended marriage date 23 Dec 1793".

Montgomery Co. marriage records include Frederick Quisenbury & MaryPhillips by Robert Jones, in a list of 7 returns that the minister filedon 4 Mar 1794. He does not list the dates the marriages were performed. The IGI indexes this marriage as 4 May 1794, in batch 8507906, sheet 62,as 20 Dec 1793 in batch 7432310, sheet 71, and as 4 Mar 1794 in batch7506508, sheet 60. Batch 8507906, submitted by Stella M. Scanland, is alarge set of marriages taken directly from GS Films #7748 and #7749, bothentitled "Montgomery County, Virginia Marriages". I do not know who thesources for the other two batches are.
