The ship stopped at cowes, England and receivedclearance papers to carry migrants to America. This was necessary becausethe colonies in America were under English rule.
Upon reaching the American coast the LEATHLEY sailed up the Delaware Bayto Philadelphia arriving in PA on 19 Sep 1753. Also on this ship wereFriederich Wilhelm Schlenker, Frantz Henry Schlenker and John WilliamSchlenker. Friederich was a brother of Christoffell and it is presumedthat Frantz William and John William were also.

Many did not have funds and buyers cameand bargained witht he immigrants agreeing to pay their debts of passagein return for a certain number of years and days of service. The years ofservice or indenture varied according to the age, health and skills ofthe immigrant. Most periods of indenture ran about three years for farmlaborers. The purchaser of the service was required to provide adequatfood, housing and other necessities. Christoffel Schlenker served hisindenture in Maxatawney Twp., Berks Co., PA.
