St Charles Mo
Dear Rosey and Jess & family
I recived your card and was glad you thought of me. I am able to be around and wait on my self. I am staying with Ola for the winter. I staid with Lawson and Ruby most all summer. Lawson is working over a rooming house for John and will bee here for a while yet. They are doing fine and I like to stay thare but they were plastering and thought it was best for me here.
I have past my 84th birthday. I got a bad fall while with Lawsons and put my shoulder out of place and that laid me up for a while. And then my eyes went bad and I had to go to St Louis and have a specilist treat them. So now I am writing this letter without glasses and am glad to say so. I get 54 dollars a month pension from the goverment and that keeps me. I solde my home to Ervin Oliver, Lawson’s boy that helped stop Germany from taking us. He is a fine boy and I am glad he has my home now.
Rosie, I will try to give you a little of our family history as far as I no beginning at my grandfather Bengeman Painter. His three boys Ezekiel, David, and Isaac Painter. Ezekiel was my father, and David was Nicy's father. Nicy and I and your father [Isaac James Painter, father of Jessie Oliver Painter] were first cousins. They were married at our home by a minister. I have forgotten the year, but Minnie was the first child.
Isaac was born in Indana and came to Mo when about 3 years olde, but I have forgot his birthday date. When he was about 20 he went back to Indana and married Elizabeth Grigsby and was thare 6 years or more. That was Everts and Birts mother. Lizie dide when Birt was 10 days olde. They had came to Mo so after about 2 years he went back to Ind and brought Nicy back. She had bin married and divorsed. Nicy had 5 (?) half brothrs and boys name Isac, David & Ezkiel, after the 3 older brothers, all in Dale and Jenntryville, Ind. They all had large familys. Uncle Isac and Aunt Mary Ann wer cousins to, and good Christin, too.
I am the last of fathers family living. My sister died 2 years ago. She was in her 85 year. Now I have tryed to give you all I knew about the family and hope I hope you will understand.
Love and come to see us,
Aunt Fannie Oliver
