  • Notes
    • Ira and friend built a plane based on plans in Popular Mechanics some time in the 1930s.

From the only picture available, it appears the plane they made was a "Pietenpol Air Camper", a wood aircraft designed by Bernard Pietenpol. The wings would be covered with fabric and then varnished. The plane was a cover story in Popular Mechanics in 1932. Ira did woodworking throughout his life.

Ira spent most of his adult life working as a line supervisor for the Hercules Powder Plant in Carthage, Missouri. In the early 1960s there was an explosion at the plant while he was home for lunch. His daughter and grandson living in Tulsa, Oklahoma heard the deep sound of the explosion and felt the ground shake. She immediately called her parents, certain she knew what the sound was.

"Quiet, gentle, great sense of humor. He's the kind of guy who'd click his false teeth at you." WEP, Jr.

Ira died in 1973 of MS.
