Dot, A divorce decree for Aaron & Speedy Cox is noted in the Chancery Records of Greene Co. It reads ......"In July 1845 they were married and had one child. When returning from a visit to her mother.......She has heard he was at his father's in Claiborne Co and also went to to the Mexican War.....Divorce granted Feb 1850." Poor gal she had to pay cost. Aaron the Younger didn't appear to retun to Claiborne Co. At least I haven't found him.
    ...
As I said they were returning from a visit to her mother. "he was riding her horse and carrying the child she walking - at a road fork he laid the child in the lap of a girl in the rod and said he would find a place to live upon. She wanted him to come home but off he went. It has been 3 yrs and she has not seen him since......."

      Hi Tara:

Am trying to identify Aaron Cox b. 1816 NC, son of Aaron & Polly Hill Cox of Stokes Co NC and Claiborne Co TN. Aaron is a brother to my ancestor, William Cox.

Aaron is cited as marrying Experience Mitchell 25 July 1845 Greene CoTN. His sister, Cynthia md an Almarian Mitchell in Claiborne Co. Haven't found a relation-
      ship between these Mitchells.

A divorce decree for Aaron & Speedy Cox is noted in the Chancery Records of Greene Co.

It reads ......In July 1845 they were married and had one child. When re-turning from a visit to her mother.......She has heard he was at his father's in Claiborne Co and also went to to the Mexican War.....Divorce granted Feb 1850

Poor gal she had to pay cost. Aaron the Younger didn't appear to retun to Claiborne Co. At least I haven't found him.

Any help you can give me would be appreciated. Your Aaron md an Experience Wells I note. There certainly could be 2 Aarons. With names like Aaron & Experience you would think they would be easier to find.

      Hi Tara:

Was so glad to hear about Experience. I would have never traced her to her maiden name of Welles.

Also getting the name of Claudius. Heroic name but Aaron his father certainly left much to be desired. I unfortunately don't have the original copy of the divorce decree. What I have is the Greene County TN Chancery book.

Further data of what I sent you reinforced my negative feelings to AaronJr.

I didn't send for the divorce decree which certainly no doubt would havebeen more enlightning. I have been focused on trying to identify Aaron Cox Sr andhis wife, Polly Hill Cox's parents. Aaron Sr is said to be bc 1780 in NC.

His grandaughter, Sarah Cox May 1832 md 1853 md James Hale. They were my greatgrandparents. James was hanged at the Cumberland Gap ca 1863 by the Confederate forces, family tradition.

Sarah then md a William Cox. My father had said a cousin. They md 1867and left Claiborne Co TN and went to Clay Co KY with her 2 Hale sons.

I had been working with a Cox cousin trying to determine the relationshipbetween these Cox lines. In 1995 I went to a Cox reunion in London, KY. Allthere were descended from William Cox's children prior to his marriage to Sarah andthere children. I was the only Hale descendent.

I checked into the web you gave me and read the descendents of ReubenCox. I wonder if he and Aaron Sr could be related. I can only wonder what tookAaron Jr to Greene Co. Could it have been they were cousins?

Most of Aaron Sr's children I have identified and where they went butAaron Jr disappeared.

I noted that in the website on Reuben that the statement about Aaron'sidentity was based on Horton Cox being at the wedding.

What has further amazed me is the divorces I have come across.Interestingly Sarah Cox Hale Cox and William Cox were divorced in Clay Co 1900.

Have you any data on what happened to Claudius? It certainly isn't aname that was used by any Cox siblings of Aaron.

Look forward to any ideas you have.
