      Virgene 8 Dec 2000 (ADKINS,KENNEDY,NEWLAND,HENDRICKS) John ADKINS andspouse, Elizabeth ADKINS, lived in the same section, twp and range, inHancock Co IN as my gg-grandfather, Thomas KENNEDY, in 1854. This couplesigned a document the same day as my gg-grandfather, Thomas K. signed thesame *type* of document which I *think* was selling a portion of theirland to an attorney to raise money for a court appeal in behalf of ThomasK. My question is: Does anyone on this list have an ADKINS who was in anyway associated with KENNEDY. Thomas KENNEDY was b. in VA abt 1790. I findhim first in Huntington Twp, Brown Co OH, in 1830. He purchased land inHancock Co IN in 1834 and is shown on Buck Crk Twp, Hancock Co IN censusof 1840, spouse Mary, b. abt 1806, in OH. I have the names of his six ofhis children. Sarah A. mar George HUDSON;
      Eliza Ann, mar. Christopher RULEY;
      Mary Jane, mar. 1st John UNDERWOOD, 2nd Frederick HENDRICKS, in 1859.
      Mary Jane and Frederick are my g-grandparents. There are three minorchildren listed for Thomas KENNEDY and spouse, Mary, on the 1850 censusof Hancock Co IN. They are
      Nancy Susan,
      James Levi and
      Francis Newland KENNNEDY.
      The middle name NEWLAND may be a clue as to a relationship. Perhaps thisis the maiden name of Thomas KENNEDY's spouse, Mary. So far, I have notbeen successful in finding a listing of a marriage for Thomas and Mary.Suggestions and/or answers to the above would be most appreciated.

      His attorney was T.D. Walpole

      DISBARMENT OF WALPOLE
      "One is surprised at the number of lawsuits in which Walpole himself wasa party, as shown by the records of the court. Frequently he appeared asplaintiff, but more often as defendant. Nor does there seem to have beenany statue that limited proceedings against him to civil actions. Hisname appears a defendant in state cases, and one of the amusing incidentsin the record in an indictment returned against him February 17, 1849,for disturbing a lawful meeting. "

      I am still looking for a possible connection to gg-grandfather, Thomas
      KENNEDY, b. 10 Aug. 1793, in either VA or OH...possibly VA MilitaryDistrict?

      He was in Huntington Twp, Brown Co OH, in 1830--and in 1834 purchasedland
      in Buck Crk Twp, Hancock Co IN. His children, Mary Jane, b 1826 m. John
      UNDERWOOD, b abt 1805, in KY (he came from Harrison KY after 1830 toHancock
      Co IN), second husband of Mary Jane, Frederick HENDRICKS, b abt 1811-12KY;
      Eliza Ann b abt 1827, m Christopher RULEY; Sarah m. George HUDSON: NancySusan
      b abt 1844 m. Nathan JOHNSON, in Hamilton Co IN; James Levi m. Lucinda
      McMullen STRICKLAND, in St Joseph, Buchanan Co MO: There was one sonwhose
      name
      was Franklin *Newland* KENNEDY, b abt 1840, in Hancock Co IN. Additional
      children were Charles Francis and Ellen Mary,b after 1868 and who
      both went by the
      surname SMITH and removed to Rice Co MO, in 1876, before the death ofThomas
      KENNEDY which occurred 12 Dec. 1876. Their mother was Mary Ann UnderwoodSMITH.
      I have wondered whether the middle name NEWLAND may be the maiden nameof
      Thomas KENNEDY'S spouse, Mary, who was b. about 1805, in OH.
      If anyone has any information on the above families I would appreciate
      hearing from you.
