Oava and William were living in Highland Park at the time of AlfredNorman's death
Oava was always called Aunt Ovie or Ovie, never Oava. She was my greataunt. We went to visit them when I was 4 or 5 years old. All I canremember is Uncle Bill had TB and Dad had warned me not to go near himbefore we went in. Uncle Bill tried to give me a banana and Dad nearlybroke a leg heading it off before I touched it. They lived in a shackthat had dirt floors, being a kid, the carpet felt funny to walk on, so Ilooked. It was dirt, REAL dirt, there was no floor under it. I had neverseen poverty before. It's one of those things that stick in your mind asa child. I couldn't remember her husband's first name or her married nameuntil I found them in the gift list in my baby book. They were very poor, probably due to uncle Bill's sickness, oddly the book says their gift wasmoney. I met someone a few years older than me named Lester at theirhouse. It could have been their son. I can only remember that we didn'thit it off. - Terry Norman 7/24/2004

Oava Williams Coomes Hudson Bryan
Hi Tara,
This is taking me longer than I thought it would. You have gatheredquite a bit of information. What I have found by corresponding withRoxier "Roxie" Hudson Schoen is that Drucilla Williams' maiden name wasBurgess. She was the daughter of Aaron Burgess and Annie Stuart. Roxieremembers them well. This shows in the census records of their livingwith her parents early in the marrige. Another surprise, Oava's firstmarriage was to Harry Coomes. Their only child was the "Raymond" showingin the census records as a Hudson, but his real name was Raymond GlenCoomes, which shows up correctly in Drucilla's obit as a grandchild alongwith my father. His father, Harry Coomes was a mining engineer. He waskilled in a mining accident when Oava was 18 and Raymond was only 10months old. Oava's second marriage to Roy Hudson resulted in 3 children,Roxier (Roxie, not Rosie), Maguerite, and Hesper. There were no childrenby the 3rd marriage to William Bryan. I never did find out who the"Lester" was that I vaguely remember at the Bryan home, unless that wasHesper. I have known Roxie since I was a baby and have confirmed theabove with her and her nephew Charles G. (Duf) Hudson (son of Hesper),e-mails from both on file. I have quite a bit more on the family, butsince this is taking longer than expected, I thought I'd at least clearup the "Burgess/Coomes" mess so it wasn't affecting your records. Thanksfor sharing your work.
Cheers, Terry
